Jean-Claude Féret

Sonata for violin and piano

When Ysaÿe first met Lekeu, he was impressed by that young man, almost a kid still, always accompanied by his mother... but so impassionned that he some times even forgot his timidity...

He encouraged him to continue on that road he had choosen, and Lekeu decided then to write a work for him… And it was that sonata, that Ysaÿe played as oftens as he could, trying to impose it to the public, the same as he was doing by the way, with all of his friends, would they be Franck, Chausson, Debussy…

Lekeu also dedicated to him his last work, his piano quartet, but left unfinished, a typhoid fever having taken him at the end of the second movement.
